Teaching is an admirable profession (although not always perceived as one) with great perks like Summers off, Spring Break and Winter Recess. But those perks are very necessary due to the very nature of the job, teaching is not all that we do!
Not only do we have get everything "learned" before the state test (PRESSURE!!!!), we have to redirect, mother, nurse, counsel, nurture, guide, intervene, remediate, discipline, instruct, educate, reason, argue, negotiate, defend and entertain. We also have to check, reteach, evaluate, assess, confer, compare data, and do it all over again when we meet with the parents and/or administrators.
By Tuesday, my co-teacher and I were already spent.
So I decided that I would take full advantage of the textbook perfect weather we were having in Miami and I went outside to my backyard.
I thought it would be the perfect time to read a little and pray a little and spend some time...
And as it turned out, I hardly heard Him when He quietly suggested I take a nap.
There I was on His bed of grass, blanketed by His blue sky, warmed by His sun, lulled by His breeze and sung to by His birds.
Psalms 23:1-3
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
