Simply Retro Update: "Adorn"

Made entirely of scrappy strips.  Because the Pebble quilting was so compact and I only "outline" quilted the star, it did get a "bubbling" type of effect when lying flat. Can you tell? Who cares though? The pebble quilting looks so great! So there you have it! The finished "Adorn" pattern from  Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley.

Friday Night Block Party: Mother's Dream

Hey everyone, can you believe September is almost over? That means that I'll soon announce the winner of the charm pack. Whoever left a linky or a comment is in the drawing, good luck to all!! About this block party.... I have to confess that I was not enjoying this process because while I loved sharing all the block names and making them, they were like mismatched "pieces"  that were just piling up with no direction or purpose. (I am done with potholders!)  So I went back to The Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt book. While I was using it as a reference, I find that in order to be inspired I really have to like what I am doing. What is the big picture that gives this block party a purpose?  For me I lose steam if I don't enjoy the process, it becomes a chore, ya know?  Therefore, since I have soooooo many scraps, it's the perfect excuse to get started on this project! The little scraps are "just right" for 6 inch blocks. So here I

I have a  fixation with the Five Little Pumpkins Song.  It's been part of my teaching repertoire for many, many years.  So here is my latest rendition I am calling it Five Happy Pumpkins. It's really easy to do, it does involve some applique but it's as easy as "cut and paste!"   Updates in yellow! These squares started out at 3 inches. Draw a diagonal across from co

Simply Retro Update: "Playground"

This post is to show you the completed baby quilt from the "Playground" pattern from the same book. It's done in Baby Big Top Circus fabric by Timeless Treasures. Not much a fan of circuses per se, but they sure look great as illustrations and fabric! This pattern is one of the projects in the book Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley.  Jana is hosting a quilt along on her blog . I wanted to give you an update on how lovely this quilt came out. At least I was happy with the result. I just quilted loops, that's "circus-y" isn't it?  large loops on the blocks and small loopier loops on the sashing and borders. The backing has moons and stars, I used this for my son's room 14 years ago! Let's just say I've come such a looooong way!! Can you guess my favorite part?  Solid binding in various colors, it was the perfect complement. And it was very convenient to have this jelly roll handy!
