Inspired Ideas for Christmas~ Tree skirt

I know, I know! These tree skirt pictures are posted on the Christmas page, but I hadn't blogged about them so here goes. Way back, when I started collecting Mary Engelbreit Craft Books, it was by mail and I wallowed in pleasant surprise at each delivery for 3 years! I briefly pouted when I learned that it was only a three book series and that's when the search for more of her books hit full gear.  The illustrations and the crafts in these first books vary, there are all kinds, even recipes. But I believe, what we, ME fans, really wanted was to materialize her illustrations into 3-dimensional objects.  That's when, finally, this fabulous book came out which did just that.  What's more, they even show the illustrations that the craft projects were born from. (My ME ideas are not included...yet! LOL!)  Believe it or not I found this treasure on a bargain book aisle in Barnes & Noble, you can find it now on Amazon

from the  book

This book has a gorgeous felted tree skirt that was very intricate and I didn't think I could pull that off at the time since I didn't have the proper space to work.  So I decided to make a tree skirt with her classic motifs I had been itching to do for a really long time.  It wasn't until maybe 4 or 5 years ago that I finally did it.  So I designed this one and slowly but surely got it finished. It's not too big about 3 ft. in diameter, but it was perfect for my 5-6ft. tree.  I cut each motif from felt, sewed them on to the skirt embellishing each with beads or buttons. The snowflake, angel and Christmas tree are not really hers but they are a part of Christmas so there they are.  On the flip side I have a white with Blue RickRack skirt with Peanuts characters Ice Skating (last photo). More on that on another post.

This design is my own using ME motifs.

and satin stiched them around the skirt.

Friday Night Block Party: Pinwheels

Welcome to the Friday Night Block Party here at Summercrafter.  If  you missed the first one , don't worry there's another one today!  Every Friday I will be featuring a new quilt block and the name or names associated with it and a little history.         Today's featured block is the called the Pinwheel. (It's on the button above!) I love it because it means fun! It makes me think of ...       Ferris wheels     and cartwheels  and wind. The Pinwheel block, was created in the United States around the 1800's. It became a very popular quilt block pattern and continues to be used in a variety of styles. There are so many ways to accent the "blades" with the colors (light/dark) patterns and placement, both within and around a quilt.  And it's really not a difficult block to do, I'll show you three different kinds of pinwheel blocks to try. Look ...

It's a Block Party!

Welcome to the Friday Night Block Party! I always wanted to live in a neighborhood that had block parties, but I lived in a cul-de-sac where people only made U-turns!  But I have decided to make my own Block Party right here on the blog! We'll be here every Friday and you can even be a host if you want.  Just shoot me an email . But for now, let's get this party started!     I am going to be showcasing some great quilt blocks in this feature with some back stories. This is a good way to become more familiar with the history of quilting and the blocks, read a blurb here . And of course, making samples is a great hands-on experience. Join me won't you?     You could share the same block, which would be nice, but a Block Party is a Block Party! So just add your link to feature any block that you are working on whether it's paper or fabric. I am asking however, that you please add n...
