I really look forward to getting these magazines every year. I forget all about them right up until school starts. In the past, I have always found them around October but this year I came across them in August and September, it's like the newsstands heard me!! I just got this one at Joann fabrics.
But this isn't the type of magazine to flip through as if you are sitting under the hair dryer at a salon or waiting for the hygienist to call you in. There is a "way" to browse through a craft magazine and today I am going to tell you how it's done, or at least how I do it!
1. Buy the magazine.
2. Put it in a safe place until you have time to sit down with it. Like the dress you are saving for a special occasion but sneak in your closet to try it on a few times because it's so pretty?
3. The first time you go through the magazine you look at every page slowly, but ONLY looking at the PICTURES. TIP: Don't do this when relatives are over, they will talk through all your browsing and you will miss things.
4. During the first look, you may find some new craft supplies you were not aware of, hold that thought!
5. The second time you look through the magazine, you read captions and articles.
6. The next time you pick up the magazines, you read the rest of the articles and some instructions for crafts.
7. The next time you look at the magazine, you bring mini post-it tabs. And in accordion fashion, "tab" all the pages of crafts you really like or want to make. You can mark the pages with the large picture or the page with instructions. I write or draw on the tab for quick reference for future uses. Yes, I do go back!
8. Also make a note of new craft supplies you haven't seen or heard of and go find them!
9. Start crafting.
9. Start crafting.
This is one of my first magazine crafts, that was easy and so fun to make.
Felt ice skates with paper clip blades!
Note: You can peruse your magazine in one sitting or over several days, I usually revisit it frequently, and each time I seem to notice something I didn't see before.
Any questions?
LOL...No questions, Miss Elaine. I actually read mine like this, too, except I just dog-ear the pages I like best. I have one magazine that I can barely close at the top. :0)
